Honest Cat Toy Reviews From Real-Life Experience

With so many cat toys on the market, how do you know which ones are worth buying? A toy might look wonderful to us, but the real test is whether it captures a cat's interest and encourages natural behaviors like stalking, chasing, pouncing, and playing.

Here you'll find my honest cat toy reviews, featuring toys I've tried with real cats. I'll share what works, what doesn't, and what makes certain toys particularly appealing to our feline companions. My goal is simple: to help you choose toys that provide genuine enjoyment and enrichment for your cats.

Bergan Turbo Track

May 2025

Review of the Bergan Turbo Track.

• Buy it.

• Don't throw it through the dishwasher. Wash it by hand.

• When setting it up, enlist the cat's help to create a loving connection.

• It's a self-access toy, not an interactive toy.

• Demonstrate the toy to the cat just for a fun activity.

• If the cats show no interest, don't worry - setting up the toy for them is a loving activity of and by itself. Besides, they can use it after you leave.

• Busted up track is good as it shows the cats had been using it after you left.

• Combine 2 or 3 kits for a larger racetrack and more fun!

• Cats sometimes like to use the Bergan Turbo Track as a 'bed'.

Peek-A-Bird

May 2025

A candid review of the Peek-A-Bird by PetSafe.

If you can't be bothered watching the vid, I get it. Short story: Buy it. It's a great addition to your cat sitting kit. Costs about $30. Motion activated.

• Built like a tank.

• You can purchase extra feathers.

• Easy to clean.

• Has a 6-hr mode so leave it on just as you leave so the cats have 6 hours more play while you are away.

• Mine have hundreds of hours on them and are still going without a hitch.

Potaroma 3 In 1

June 2025

Review of the Potaroma 3 in 1 electronic cat toy.

The skinny - thumbs up for cat sitters and cat guardians.

Pros:

• Easy to assemble - no tools required.

• Feather on top alternates clockwise and counter-clockwise.

• Feather under circular mat provides rustling, ground-level play-hunting options.

• Different modes enable feather under mat or butterfly on top, or alternating between the two, or both at once.

• After 400 seconds it goes dormant, but touch activation will set it going again. This lasts for 2 hours.

• Easy re-charging via USB.

• Butterfly attachment is generic and replacements can be bought online.

• Replacement feather for under mat can be bought online.

• Comes with a mouse and a feather as options for under the circular mat.

Cons:

• None

Comments:

As with any cat toy - whether it be self-access (think mouse toy), interactive (think fishing pole style toy) or electronic, it's key to rotate them regularly to retain interest. If a cat sees the same toy(s) day in, day out they will get bored with them soon. Got 5 cat toys? 4 of them need to be out of sight and out of mind in a closed drawer. Once a week, swap one of them out.
